| What are you looking for at the audition? |
| Of
course we mention that we love actors who dig
improv and sketch comedy, but that doesn't mean
you can't show up with zero experience in those
arts, come in and do something from a contemporary
script, and still get cast. We hope to see actors who get comedic timing, who understand there is more than one type of funny, who don't mind being the straight man if that's what works for their scene, and who are good with the "yes... and." Definitely prepare a short comedic scene for your audition (or be ready to cold read our comedic sides). Three minutes would be a good target. Yes, that's short, but y'know what? It's kind of like listening to a new song on the car radio. You don't need more than a few seconds to know whether you want to change the station, right? We do not want to see you do a monologue. I know. You're bummed. But we're looking for chemistry and listening skills and the ability to bounce words around with others (as well as checking out your general talent, type, and vibe), which means we need to see you interacting with another wonderful person (rather than some fixed spot on the back wall). See how that works? Before you've even gotten the audition appointment, we'll have reviewed your headshots, resumé, and online demo reel. You'll also have emailed us about your audition material and showcase goals. But don't worry that your marketing materials have to be "top notch" in order for you to get cast. Part of what we do during the showcase process is get your goods really looking great. That's the Self-Management for Actors component of being a part of this cast. So, you needn't run out and get new headshots before your audition (even though you may need new ones before the showcase itself--but honestly, we've been able to find "other shots" in cast members' existing proofsheets that work perfectly, so it's not always a "square one" kind of thing). | What if I can't bring a partner? |
| No problem! We can pair you up with other folks auditioning who are also partner-free. You two can either do material you've prepped and brought extra copies of or you can do a good ol' fashioned cold read together! Some actors need lots of prep time. Others do better when they're working "on the fly." If you're the type who needs to know your partner and rehearse your audition material, we recommend you find a partner in advance or arrive way early for your audition and pair up in the waiting area with someone else who likes to rehearse. |

| What if my partner doesn't get cast? |
| No problem! You won't be the only person in that situation, so we'll find a great scene partner for you! Promise! |

| And if we're both cast, we can do a scene together, right? |
| Maybe.
Maybe
not. There is no guarantee that any actor will
work with another, nor is there any assurance that
you will be performing the material you used at
your audition or submitted for consideration.
"Hey! That's not fair! It's my money and I'll do
what I want!" Yeah... not here. You're absolutely
becoming a producing
partner in the showcase, but part of the
reason our showcase rocks so damn hard is the fact
that we're showcasing you as the industry wants to
cast you now.
If you have a burning desire to be seen only as you want to be
seen (and not how the industry sees you), you'd be
better served putting your hard-earned money
toward mounting your own one-person show or
shooting your own short film. We totally support
you in that goal. But that's NOT what this

| Okay, this all sounds like a buttload of work. |
| Yup.
It
is. No doubt about it. And it begins before you're
even selected for the showcase itself. You can ask
our previous cast members--and writers and
directors--and they'll tell you it was no small
commitment of their energy to get their headshots,
resumés, demo reels, websites, online
casting profiles, networking skills, and scene
work up to peak levels. But they'll also tell you
that even before the showcase performances, they
started reaping the benefits of using more
type-specific headshots, more goal-oriented
resumés, and more specifically-branded demo
reels to market themselves. The benefits of being cast in this showcase happen *way* before curtain-up! And they continue long after we strike the set. What a cool bonus to get your career focus recharged! And really, would you want to be a part of a showcase that didn't require you to take full advantage of the industry exposure you're going to get? Nah! Really, if you want the core criteria to be the fact that "your check cleared," we're not your showcase. You're actually gonna have to work your arse off here. And you'll be better for it. We promise! |
